La letra de ‘Father Figure’ de Taylor Swift ya ha sido analizada al máximo por los Swifties, y con razón. Después de escuchar ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ muchos se han preguntado de quién habla exactamente el cuarto track. Aquí te lo explicamos.
Aunque en una primera escucha uno podría inclinarse a creer que la letra alude a una estrella prometedora que traicionó a Swift tras su tutoría, cuando lo exponemos así no podemos evitar pensar que suena un poco familiar. La canción, que interpola el material homónimo de George Michael de 1987 (hoy viral en TikTok), cuenta una historia demasiado común de explotación en la industria musical.
De hecho, los herederos de George Michael aplaudieron esta fusión públicamente: “Nos encantó cuando Taylor Swift y su equipo nos contactaron a principios de este año para incorporar una interpolación del clásico de George Michael, ‘Father Figure’, en una nueva canción del mismo título que se incluirá en su próximo álbum. La letra de ‘Father Figure’ de Taylor Swift explicada
Swift es conocida por cantar desde el punto de vista de otras personas, así que, teniendo eso en cuenta, parece que la letra de ‘Father Figure’ está escrita desde el punto de vista del ejecutivo musical que le dio su primera oportunidad y explora los primeros días de su carrera.
A lo largo de la canción, Swift aborda la continua explotación de los artistas en la industria musical con una letra explícita, en la que el ejecutivo anónimo parece intentar convencer a Taylor de que cuidará de ella y tendrá en cuenta sus intereses.

Como bien sabemos, Swift se ha enfrentado a varias batallas tras abandonar su primer sello discográfico, Big Machine Records, donde trabajaba con el CEO, Scott Borchetta.
Del mismo modo, después de que los masters de Swift fueran vendidos a Scooter Braun allá por 2019, la cantante expresó su frustración por la transacción, diciendo en una carta abierta:
“Durante años pedí, supliqué por una oportunidad de ser dueña de mi trabajo. En lugar de eso, me dieron la oportunidad de volver a firmar con Big Machine Records y ‘ganar’ un álbum de vuelta a la vez, uno por cada nuevo que entregara. La pista suena completamente diferente a la composición de Swift, pero están conectadas de una forma muy especial. Michael le promete a su amante ser todo lo que necesite: protector, guía, refugio. Entre notas y sonidos sensuales y vulnerables, se plantea como una figura paterna no en el sentido de autoridad estricta, sino como un rol de entrega total.
Por su parte, Taylor cuestiona el papel que prometen las disqueras a los artistas, pero que ellos terminan asumiendo cuando se dan cuenta de que quienes deberían ser sus protectores, resultan sus peores amenazas, como su caso con Borchetta.
En este sentido, podríamos decir que la unión entre ambos títulos yace en la redefinición de la “figura paterna”, o mejor dicho, el recuento de su verdadero sentido que parece haberse perdido entre el machismo y la codicia. Swift trae a colación la versión idealista de George, basada en el amor y la lealtad genuinos, para demostrar lo que realmente implica este rol, contrario a lo que le prometieron erróreamente.
